Style Inspiration …

Inspiration can be found anywhere - I always relish seeing how people interpret the catwalk trends or mix vintage and designer finds to create an ensemble.

To me, personal style is a form of expression and my style inspiration comes from an eclectic mix of modern muses, silver screen icons and street style.

I take a lot of inspiration from classic films of the '50s and '60s (featuring the likes of Jane Russell or Sophia Loren).  I love how feminine fashion was back then, curves were celebrated and women dressed to show off their shape (or enhance it).  As an hourglass, I love showing off my figure so I think I’m naturally drawn to that era as the fashion works perfectly for my body shape.

When it comes to modern muses, I applaud how Kardashian sisters Kim and Khloe completely embrace their curves.  Although Kim is hourglass and Khloe a pear shape, they never fail to dress in a way that shows off their figures to full advantage.  Clothes that hug the body in all the right places are always much more flattering than trying to cover up curves.

What’s important to remember is that style has no size limitations - any body shape can look amazing with the right clothes to show it off.  My top tips are to always highlight your assets, embrace your shape and never forget to create balance in your look.

Jeans Shopping Sorted!

Where to start …

Know what you want from your jeans – are you after a pair that you can wear with anything, to any occasion?  A casual pair?  A pair that hold you in?  Once you know what you want to achieve, it makes the shopping process much easier.

Combat those woes …

If like me, you’re an hourglass or have a more voluptuous butt and hip area, you’ve got to get the hip to waist ratio right for a good fit.  So, your jeans need to be tight enough on the waist yet roomy enough for your hips and bum.  High waisted styles with stretch are perfect for this, they’re cut to sit snug around the waist yet have enough give to accommodate your booty.

Which style?

Flattering on everyone, skinnies are my go-to, whether I’m styling myself or someone else.  From super stretch jeggings or a fitted slim-leg style, skinnies are the perfect base for any look; it’s all about how you style them up and ensuring you pick the right amount of stretch.  Fabric should give enough to accommodate you but also hold you in.

For a real head-turner, flares are a great option and back with a vengeance for SS15!  Better with heels, flares really elongate the legs and are perfect for balancing out your shape.

For a more relaxed look, try boyfriend jeans.  They’re amazing on all body shapes but be aware of the fit, slimmer legs or slightly tapered options are more flattering as opposed to really baggy styles that can add volume.

Styling tips ...

Don’t be afraid to customise, whether with a simple knee slash, heavy rips or a turn-up.  Play around with what works for you.

Remember proportions, if you have tight jeans on, you can get away with something less fitted on top and vice versa.

For flares, try tucked in tops to create a 70s inspired streamlined look.  With skinnies, try a tunic-style top or boyfriend fit t-shirt.

Shopping tips …

Don’t worry what the size label says, go for what fits you – there is no standardisation in sizing from shop to shop.

Always try jeans on before you buy.

Be aware that stretch jeans will give so buy them snug.
